DIY | Cinna-Vanilla Body Scrub

It’s October and I’m already feeling a chill in the early morning air in North Florida. Plus, the Halloween season is getting in full swing as many Halloween-themed stores are popping up for all of the people who want to buy their costumes, decorations, and candy.

I’m preparing for the season and weather change myself by slowing down, putting extra time in my hobbies and practicing some self-care. One of my methods of self-care is indulging in homemade beauty products by yours truly!

This is where this body scrub comes in. I whipped this up myself and you only need five ingredients to make it. It smells delicious like a sweetly baked pastry and it’s on the edible side too (not to say that you should shovel this into your mouth instead of using it in a bath or shower…)!

Here are the ingredients and measurements:

  • 8 – 10 tablespoons pure cane sugar
  • 8 – 10 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/8th teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4th teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 – 3 tablespoons virgin coconut oil

Combine the two sugars in a bowl using a whisk. I recommend a whisk because it works the best for me since I can mix the sugars in easily. Make sure you remove any large lumps in the sugars and feel free to crush the lumps in-between your fingers. The mixture should be grainy in texture.

Add the ground cinnamon and vanilla extract and mix into the sugars until well mixed. The mixture should smell really good at this point, but don’t be tempted to eat it!

Melt your coconut oil in a bowl placed in hot water and mix it gradually into the sugar mixture. It’s okay if you don’t use all of the oil; make the scrub to whatever texture you wish. I like mine to be a little on the abrasive side and not too oily.

Place your scrub into a sealed container and you’re done! This recipe should be enough to fill a small glass mason jar. Or, in my case, it should be enough for a cleaned out LUSH pot.

To use, take a small handful of the scrub and massage it onto wet skin. Rinse off and enjoy the feeling! This scrub can be used anywhere on your body except your face, genitals, and hair. It’s even good as a hand scrub or lip scrub if your want. I recommend using it twice a week for great results.

Feel free to adjust the recipe depending on the size of the container you’re using to store it in. This is just enough for me to work with. Hope you enjoy this recipe! I think it’s a great way to welcome the Autumn season!
